As I left a restaurant one evening after a long and animated dinner, I realized how much time we spend during the day just sitting! Whether in the car, in the office, at the kitchen counter, around the dinner table, in the living room, or by the pool… Chairs, stools, sofas, loungers are everywhere! In my tradition of giving functional objects a special treatment, I cannot leave the chair out of this category!

Dinning chairs are the first ones to come to mind. Who says comfort and aesthetics cannot complement each other? It might take more than a single mind to achieve that. One of my favorites icons of designs emerged in 1940 from the combined geniuses of Charles Eames and Eero Saarinen. The result, the so called organic chair is beautiful, comfortable and timeless :

I often find it challenging when chair and table materials compete with each other . To avoid that,  when pairing chairs with a wooden table, I search for either fully upholstered ones like the Jackie chair from Gallotti and Radice:

Or I dare using a metal chair. I am obsessed with the Icarus chair by Patrick Naggar made of bonze and carbon fiber and the Avoa chair from Brazilian designer Pedro Paulo-Venzo:

I find benches to be an alternative to chairs when I want to transform an area into a cozy welcoming space. When placed in foyers or dressing rooms, well chosen benches become part of the architecture and invite you to come closer and take a better look. This Roly Poly daybed by Faye Toogoodn is a true piece of art!

And I love the elegance of this piece by Christian Liaigre:

And when I am looking for something really special, I never get tired of Ron Arad’s creations!
